Wine, Ecology, and the Art of Regeneration: A Permaculture Salon

Join Chiara for a Permaculture Salon at the Art & Ecology Studio on March 26th in Malibu, CA.

Wine may be one of the most delicious ways to experience ecology. Every bottle is an expression of living systems — soil, climate, biodiversity, and the human stewardship that guides how a vineyard is farmed.

On March 26, I’ll be presenting at the Permaculture Salon at the Art & Ecology Studio for an evening exploring the intersection of wine, biodynamics, and regenerative agriculture — and I'd love for you to join us.

The Art & Ecology Studio is a unique creative space dedicated to fostering dialogue around ecological thinking, artistic practice, and regenerative approaches to how we live and work. As a member of the Studio’s Board, it’s especially meaningful to participate in conversations that bridge these worlds.

During the salon, I’ll guide a discussion and tasting focused on how biodynamic and regenerative farming practices influence wine, and how tasting wine can become a way of experiencing landscape more deeply.

Wine as a Living System

Wine is not simply a beverage — it is agriculture in liquid form. Healthy soils, microbial life, balanced ecosystems, and thoughtful farming practices all shape the character of a vineyard and ultimately the wines it produces. When vineyards are farmed with regenerative principles in mind — prioritizing soil health, biodiversity, and long-term stewardship — the results are often wines that express both vitality and a profound sense of place.

In this salon, we’ll explore how biodynamic and regenerative approaches to viticulture seek to work with nature’s rhythms rather than against them, and how these practices are gaining momentum in vineyards around the world.

A Mindful Approach to Wine

In my work through Mindful Wine™, I often speak about the idea of mindful tasting — a practice that invites us to slow down and engage the senses more fully, noticing aroma, texture, and flavor with curiosity and presence.

When we taste this way, wine becomes more than a product; it becomes a gateway to understanding the landscapes and living systems that produced it.

This perspective informs much of the conversation I’ll be sharing at the Permaculture Salon, where we’ll explore how wine can deepen our awareness of ecology, agriculture, and our relationship to the land.

It’s an approach that brings together sensory awareness, ecological curiosity, and shared discovery.

The Permaculture Salon: Where Art, Wine, and Agriculture Meet

What makes the Permaculture Salon particularly exciting is the opportunity for cross-pollination between disciplines.

Artists, designers, gardeners, and farmers often approach ecological questions from very different perspectives, yet the underlying themes are deeply connected: regeneration, stewardship, and the cultivation of beauty within living systems.

I’m especially honored to be sharing this conversation with Jessica Viola, founder of Viola Gardens and the Art & Ecology Studio — and a dear friend — and Dylan Boekon of Boek House and Husbandry, two thoughtful leaders whose work exploring regenerative living, land stewardship, and ecological design I admire greatly.

Permaculture Salon – Art & Ecology Studio

Saturday, March 26 in Malibu, CA

4:00–7:00 PM

The event is free to attend; donations to support the Art & Ecology Studio are warmly welcomed.

At Mindful Wine™, my work centers on the idea that wine can serve as a gateway to deeper conversations about land, stewardship, and the interconnected systems that sustain both agriculture and culture. Events like this Permaculture Salon offer a wonderful opportunity to explore those ideas together — one glass at a time.
