Mindful Wine Journal: Producer Spotlight
Dragonette Cellars | Santa Barbara County,CA
Brothers John and Steve Dragonette and close friend Brandon Sparks-Gillis founded Dragonette Cellars in 2005. Their shared passion for great wine brought them to the remote regions of northern Santa Barbara County, where they have meticulously sought out the very best vineyard sites. As vignerons, they have committed themselves to the conscious farming of these precise blocks for low yields and high quality, with the goal of making wines with purity, complexity and balance. Dragonette is known for compelling wines that showcase the incredible climatic and soil diversity Santa Barbara County has to offer. Their vineyard sources are primarily organic, biodynamic, and/or sustainable.
What we love...
2017 DRAGONETTE SANTA RITA HILLS CHARDONNAY
Produced from a selection of organic and Biodynamic vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills and aged in French oak, this exceptional Chardonnay has notes of lemon curd, hazelnut and buttered toast underscored by saline minerality.
Pairing Notes: Dungeness crab or lobster with clarified butter (or try Meyer lemon aoli for a twist!)
2018 DRAGONETTE "SEVEN" SANTA YNEZ VALLEY SYRAH
95% Syrah, 4% Grenache, 1% Viognier. From a selection of five of the top organic and sustainably farmed vineyards in the area. As in Cote Rotie, home to France’s most legendary Syrahs, a dash of Viogner lifts its rich black fruit. Notes of fresh cracked pepper, savory herbs and smoked meat linger in the finish.
Pairing Notes: Braised beef short ribs with bacon, herbs and red wine.
